Question:

Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullah i wa barakaatahu,

Dear Hazrat Mufti Sb (damat barakatahum),

Hope this mail finds you in good health and imaan. May Allah prolong your shadow upon this Ummah and may Allah accept great services of your team.

I should have asked this question via askimam, but I am in hurry and it is matter of halal and haraam.

I recently got selected for assistant professor job in India. In India, there is one central government scheme called Technical Education Quality Improvement (TEQIP) scheme. Under this scheme, goverenment tries to improve higher technical education. But TEQIP mentions that they get financial support from World Bank.

They don’t mention any detail that whether world bank gives finance whose source is interest or whether world bank asks for some benefit, they just mention that they get assistant from world bank. Here is link to that http://www.npiu.nic.in/ongngprj.htm

I need to ask that is this job permitted as we will get the salary from TEQIP. Although we will work in Muslim local university, which is beneficial for local muslims here.

Sorry once again to disturb you. Make dua for imaan.

Regards

Regards,

Answer:

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Brother in Islam,

May Allaah grant you barakah in all your permissible endeavors. Aameen.

The job in reference is permissible. You will be receiving your salary from TEQIP for teaching. You are not responsible for the source of income of TEQIP[i].

And Allaah Ta’aala Knows Best
