Academic loss due to negligence or taqdeer

Fatwaa ID: 181

Question:

Assalamualaikum mufti sahab

For the last 6-8  years I have been very negligent towards my studies and I got very poor grades in my exams. I am feeling too much regret for my academic loss. I am 25 years old doing my master’s degree. Sometimes I feel that my poor grades were destined by ALLAH but again I think that my negligence towards  studies is the sole reason for my academic loss. With such poor grades it is very difficult to get job in a country like India where there is too much cut throat competition. My family members are pressurising me to get a good job because I belong to middle class background. I am living in continuous distress, depression and regret for my academic loss. Was my academic loss destined or was it because of my negligence?? How can I cope with my present situation?

jazakallah

Answer:

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

You state you were very negligent in your studies. Obviously, your poor grades are due to your negligence.

We understand you are still studying and pursuing your master’s degree. Your negligence of the past should be a lesson for you to work hard now and achieve good results to the best of your ability. Work hard, maintain your sense of responsibility and then place your trust in Allaah.

And Allaah Ta’aala Knows Best.
