Fatwaa ID: 1060
Selam Alejkum va rahmetullah respected scholars, I pray this message finds you well.
When reciting Salaatul Ibrahimiyyah in prayer, I’ll add “Sayyidina” prior to the names of The Prophet (saw) and Ibrahim (as). Is it better to say Sayyidina, or is it preferred to leave it off? Thank you.
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
Rasulullaah ﷺ is indeed our sayyid, our leader and master, as expressly stated by him ﷺ in the Ahaadith. It is thus permissible and mustahabb to add “sayyidina” before his blessed name when sending salutations upon him. However, when doing so in salaah, some of the jurists and scholars have suggested that it will be better to suffice on those words which have been narrated from him without any addition.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
