Adhan clock cannot replace a muadhdhin

Fatwaa ID: 854

Assalaamu ‘alaykum warahmatullah. If I’m at someone’s house and they have an adhan clock, instead of giving it themselves, is it appropriate to reply to the adhan (ie when we repeat and speak after each part) or does it not count and should be avoided in this scenario?

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

At the outset, an adhaan clock cannot replace the adhaan of a real person. The adhaan of a real person is virtuous and fulfilling of the sunnah. The adhaan of a clock does not suffice. Nevertheless, it is not necessary to respond and repeat after the adhaan clock. If one does, then that is permissible and they would be rewarded for the adhkaar.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
