Advertising for business in the masjid

Fatwaa ID: 1477

If a needy person wants to sell some merchandise after the jummah prayer, outside the masjid in the parking lot, is the board allowed to make announcement from the mimbar asking the public to support their business?

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

The masjid is not for advertising worldly businesses. The board members should not make such announcements. If a person is selling something outside, the congregants will surely see it and purchase if interested. However, a general announcement and encouragement may be made that a certain brother requires financial assistance and the congregants should help him.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
