Apartment with idol in the front, removing hair

Fatwaa ID: 1824

Question:
Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu Mufti Sahib, this question from one sister

1) A family in India is planning on moving into a new apartment, but at the entrance of the gate leading into the building where the apartments are, there is an idol embedded into the compound wall. Is it ok to purchase the apartment inside or is it not advisable?

2) Can an unmarried girl remove the hair from her arms and legs if the growth is more than normal ?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

  1. It is permissible for the family to move into the said apartment. They are not responsible for the statue embedded into the wall at the gate nor are they moving into the house for that.
  2. It is permissible, albeit better to avoid if unnecessary. If she does remove the hair, then it is advisable for her to use soft methods of hair removal instead of shaving.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
