Aqeeqah for deceased baby

Fatwaa ID: 1549

As Salaamu Alaikum ww Mufti Saheb

Our grandson passed away on the fifth day after birth

Do we still maintain the niyyah of Aqeeqa for the animals that were already bought? Or we change to sadaqah?

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

May Allaah Ta’aala grant Sabr Jameel to the family.

There is no ‘aqeeqah for the deceased. In the enquired situation, you do not need to perform ‘aqeeqah or give sadaqah. If you wish to give sadaqah, that is voluntary and you will be rewarded.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
