Are subliminals haram?

Fatwaa ID: 2181

Question:
Are they haram? I’ve heard different opinions about it.

If you don’t know what subliminals are, it’s hidden affirmation where they put music or rain sounds on top so you can’t hear the affirmations.
Here’s an example:

What I want to use subliminal for:

  1. Hairless body + facial hair (I have very thick hair and they hurt when they grow back after shaving especially my pupic hair
  2. Hymen back (because I’m scared my future husband will think I’m not a virgin (I broke it myself when I was 13) (I’m 19 now)
  3. Smaller labia minora [Vagina] (not for beautification but because mine are long and sometimes uncomfortable
  4. Forget past sins (the haunting ones only) (I’ve done haram things like killing small animals for no reason + touching someones private part, masturbation etc)
  5. Tighter vagina + strong pelvic floor
  6. Even skin tone (because I have dark knees, elbows, face, private part, butt, armpits and belly)
  7. Weight loss (Maybe)
  8. Face symmetry (I will only use it if it doesn’t include changing my appearance)

I know it’s haram to change the way Allah created me, but if I use it for other things than changing my feautures, then is it halal?

May Allah Bless You <3

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu โ€˜alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

We have observed and read up on subliminals that you refer to. Firstly, we would like to remind you to cherish and accept your natural beauty and self. Be happy and content how Allaah Ta’aala has created. If there are genuine blemishes that are negatively affecting you, then you may consider genuine medical treatments.

Secondly, affirmations, manifestations, the laws of attraction, etc., are contrary to Islamic beliefs and values. This also includes the subliminals you are referring to. Subliminals either make you believe something that is contrary to the reality. This is nothing but deceiving yourself in most cases and being delusional. In the event that there are actual physical changes like you suggested, then it is our understanding that this is done through indirect seeking of assistance from other than Allaah Ta’aala. This could be a form of shirk. Accordingly, it is not permissible to use subliminals.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
