‘Asr in Saudi

Fatwaa ID: 263

Question:
Salam. If we are in Saudi and we missed the asar jamat salat. Should we wait for the hanfi time or do we read according to the Azan?
Also if we are late can we pray jammat in the hotel masjid?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

A Hanafi who follows the preponderant Hanafi position for ‘Asr, i.e., the later time of commencement, may not perform ‘Asr Salaah at the earlier time even if he is in Saudi Arabia. The salaah performed earlier would count as nafl and would have to be repeated. This is the case even if the imaam is a non-Hanafi.

Your two queries seem to be based on the premise that salaah may be performed earlier. That is incorrect.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
