Assalamualaikum

Dear muftian kiraam

Is it permissible to attend parades such as the Thanksgiving parade or St. Patrick’s day parade?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

1. It is not permissible to attend Thanksgiving Day parades due to the many haraam elements found in them, such as music, unrestricted intermingling of the sexes, immodest dressing, etc. Such environments draw the wrath of Allaah Ta’aala. A Muslim must try his level best to always be in a conducive environment that reminds him of Allaah Ta’aala.
2. It is not permissible to attend St. Patrick’s Day parades because it is a unIslamic religious parade that promotes their religious beliefs. As Muslims, we are sensitive to the issues of tawheed. Attending such parades places one’s imaan in jeopardy. This is aside from the haraam things that take place at such parades as well.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
