‘Awrah in the presence of nurses

Fatwaa ID: 1946

Assalam U Alaikum. Is it permissible for a muslim women to open her head while she is around nurses and midiwives who are non muslims in the hospital? I have my delivery scheduled in a couple of weeks and 8 heard that muslim women should not reveal her hair to non muslim women and I got worried because when staying in hospital for a couple of days we tend to forget such details and also covering head the whole time gets uncomfortable too. Please advice accordingly.
JazakAllah khair.

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

May Allaah Ta’aala you and make it easy. May He grant you a child that will be the coolness of your eyes.

A non-Muslim woman is treated like a non-mahram male in terms of hijaab. Hence, the entire body aside from the face, hands and feet must remain covered unless necessary. In the enquired situation, you should keep your head covered in front of non-Muslim nurses and midwives unless necessary.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
