Bathing nude and the story of Musa ﷺ

Question:
asalāmu ‘alaykum. ive heard from people that one should not bathe entirely naked, but didnt Prophet Mūsā alayhis salām bathe naked? https://sunnah.com/bukhari:278

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

It is permissible, albeit unadvisable, to bathe naked. Rasulullaah ﷺ was asked in regards to being naked when alone, he replied,

الله أحق أن يستحيا منه من الناس
“Allaah is more deserving than people that bashfulness be shown to him.” [Abu Dawood 4017, Tirmidhi 2769

The Hadith above indicates towards the advisability of covering one’s ‘awrah when bathing while the hadith you have referred to in the query outlines the permissibility of bathing naked. Thus, there is no contradiction between the two. Furthermore, it should be noted that the Shari’ah of the previous nations is not evidence for us.
