Becoming a nurse

Fatwaa ID: 1298

Assalam Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh, is it permissible to be nurse? Would viewing the ‘awrah of non mahram make it impermissible?

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

It is permissible to become a nurse. As a nurse or medical professional, you will be required at times to see the ‘awrah of another person. You will be excused to do so as needed. As for seeing patients of the opposite gender, you should try your best to avoid that. Where you are unable to avoid, ensure that you maintain appropriate ethics and guidelines.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
