Is behenyl alcohol ok to use in things like lip balm/skin care products?
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
Behenyl alcohol is a saturated fatty acid which can either be naturally derived from vegetable sources such as corn or synthetically produced. It is permissible to use skin care products containing the above ingredient. However, if one is using lip balms with this ingredient, then he/she should ensure that nothing is ingested, especially in the former case.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
