Bleeding during contraction

Fatwaa ID: 1512

Question:
السلام علیکم
If a person is bleeding whilst having contractions, what is that blood considered to be, istihaazah or nifaas?
Is qadha for salaah necessary?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

In principle, nifaas starts when half of the baby comes out of the womb. Any bleeding prior to that will be istihaadhah. Thus, if a salaah was missed prior to that, then qadhaa will have to be made. One should try her best not to miss any salaah during that time. While it may be difficult, it keeps her connected with Allaah Ta’aala and gives her strength.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
