Is it permissible to donate bone marrow in Islam ?
Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
It is permissible to donate bone marrow provided that
-there is a need for it,
-the donor voluntarily donates the bone marrow or stem cells,
-the donor’s health or life is not put to risk
-and it has been advised by an upright reliable doctor.
When the above conditions are met, it will be permissible to donate bone marrow.
When donating, one should do so solely for the pleasure of Allaah Ta’aala to assist those in need. If one is given a gift at the end as a token of appreciation, not a payment, then it will be permissible to accept that. However, it will not be permissible to charge or accept payments.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
