Question:
Assalamualaikum, I had a question about if someone breaks a Ramadan fast on purpose what are some ways he can make up for it besides fasting 60 days in a row. Like can he give a certain amount in sadaqa? If yes then how much would it be in dollars?
please advise on what to do. JazakAllah khair
Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
If a person intentionally breaks a Ramadhaan fast without a valid reason through eating, drinking or sexual intercourse, then kaffaarah of sixty consecutive fasts will be necessary on him. There are no other options besides this. This is the consequence of taking the commandments of Allaah Ta’aala lightly. However, he should look at this positively and use this as a means to get closer to Allaah Ta’aala. This will enable him to be disciplined and a better person.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
