Question:
Assalamualaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatahu,
Is there anything with buying the books of hadith? I ask because some brothers who are not students of knowledge buy the books and try to derive their own rulings by reading the books of hadith
Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
It is permissible for any Muslim to buy books of Hadith. However, it is not for every person to “derive” their own rulings by reading books of Ahaadith or their translations. That is not how rulings are derived. Such will only lead to deviation. It is terrifying to see the boldness of such unqualified individuals. We have a tradition of documented and preserved scholarship. These laities should humble themselves at the feet of the scholars and learn the basics of their Deen first before attempting to derive rulings.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
