Buying Item on EMI

Fatwaa ID: 2118

I have bought an electronics item from credit card with nocost emi 6 months back. I was not aware that it too involves interest and was not allowed. I bought in 3 month installments and noticed later that I was charged more than actual.

Later I found out that it was rather loan on credit card and I feel remorseful.

Now that all emis have been cleared long back, I am unable to make up my mind is it lawful to keep it or sell it off.

Kindly advice

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

We take note of the details of your query. Allaah Ta’aala overlook your shortcomings and keep you steadfast upon the Deen. You may keep the items that you have purchased through the above financing scheme. You do not need to sell it off. Make sincere istighfaar and tawbah. Exercise caution in the future.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
