‎السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَ رَحْمَةُ اللّهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهُ

My question is can we use cautery to treat freckles?

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

Cautery is a form of branding. There are Ahaadith that suggest that Nabi ﷺ prohibited it while other narrations suggest that he permitted it. The jurists have ruled that it is permissible to adopt cautery procedures when there is a need for it and one’s reliance and faith is in Allaah Ta’aala that He alone is the Healer. If other adequate alternatives are easily available, then it will be better to opt for that instead.

In the enquired situation, if there are other adequate treatments available, then you should opt for them. If there are none, then you may opt for cautery as stated above.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
