Children living with parents

Fatwaa ID: 1541

Question:
Assalamualaikum
Is it fine if the children don’t wants to live with parents but childrens are willing to pay for their maintenance.

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

Shari’ah has emphasized on the importance of being dutiful to one’s parents and honoring them. Taking care of them and looking after their well-being is a right they enjoy on the children. However, it is not necessary for the children to live together with their parents to fulfill this, especially after marriage. While some cultures may deem that necessary, it is not necessary Islamically and may not be enforced. The children may not be emotionally blackmailed for choosing to live separately.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
