Question:
السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهُُ
Respected Mufti
If a boy was interest in getting married and then two girls came along one found by family members and the other found on muslimah.com
The boy asked for a week to read istikarah, tomorrow will be one week and he needs to give of the girls an answer, however he hasn’t come up with a reason to choose one over the other.
Can mufti please give some advice on what the boy should do and how should he choose?
Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
We make du’aa that Allaah Ta’aala makes it easy for him and couples him with a compatible spouse. Istikhaarah is an essential part in the procedure of choosing a compatible spouse. Istikhaarah is to make du’aa for divine goodness in the decision one makes. However, istikhaarah alone is not sufficient. Both parties must apply their due diligence and find out about the other and determine whether there is compatibility or not. There are many factors and issues that determine compatibility. In the enquired situation, the boy should look into both and see who would be a better pick for him. Likewise, he should consult with his well wishers.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
