Collaborating with a student diversity group

Fatwaa ID: 1885

Question:
Assalamualikum I have a question
In a high school Muslim Student Association (MSA) doing a fundraiser for Palestine but can we collaborate with a Student diversity group (they support LGBTQ) to raise awareness for Palestine and collect as many funds as possible? Please let me know soon as possible. Jazakallah

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

It is important to understand and remind ourselves that help and assistance comes from Allaah Ta’aala alone. We are only a means that Allaah Ta’aala uses to assist others. We do our part and while doing so adopt means that are permissible. Allaah Ta’aala does not need us to adopt haraam means to procure funds or assistance through impermissible or inappropriate manners. Doing so would rather bring the wrath of Allaah Ta’aala.

In the enquired situation, if collaborating with the said group will require you to support or even sympathize with impermissible and inappropriate causes of theirs later on, then that will not be permissible. You do not need them. If they are willing to support the Palestinian cause without expecting the Muslim students to later support their causes, then that may be considered. Remember, we do not need them. Allaah Ta’aala is sufficient for us. Khayr and barakah comes from Him alone.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
