Contraceptive pills to delay haydh during Ramadhan

Fatwaa ID: 739

Question:
As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
Question by a sister: about taking contraceptive pills throughout Ramadan in order to avoid haidh and thus being able to fast the whole month without qadha.
Is this allowed according to hanafi fiqh ?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

It is permissible for a woman to take contraceptive pills to delay her haydh so she is able to fast the entire month of Ramadhan. However, she should consult her physician prior to opting for this. It should be noted that Shari’ah does not demand this from her. The days that she is unable to fast, perform salaah and recite Qur’aan due to her haydh, she will be rewarded as though she did, based on her clean days.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
