Correcting someone from outside of salaah

Fatwaa ID: 2227

Question:
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Hope Muftisaheb and everyone is well inshāAllah

Are we allowed to correct someone in Salāh if we’re not reading that Salāh?
And what happens if the مصلى listens to the correction of someone out of Salāh

JazākAllah

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

  1. No. A person who is not praying behind someone should not correct his salaah or recitation. Correction can only be from someone who is praying with the imaam.
  2. If the person praying accepts the correction of someone out of his salaah, then his salaah will be invalidated according to the Hanafi legal school.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
