Question:
Assalamualikum
mufti sahb,
Is it allowed for a Qari to give Luqma while looking at his phone? This Qari was also praying taraweeh behind the Imam at the time.
Do the mussalli have to repeat that prayer?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

According to the Hanafi legal school, reciting from the mus’haf or phone in salaah will invalidate the salaah. Similarly, accepting the correction of one who is looking in the mus’haf or phone will also invalidate the salaah. Accordingly, in the enquired situation, the salaah of the imaam, if he was Hanafi, as well as that of the Hanafi followers was invalid. However, there is no qadhaa or repeating of Taraaweeh Salaah. Istighfaar should be made.
