Question:
Assalamualaikum,
On the 10th of Hajj 2023, temporally I seperated from my group and lost in Muzdalifah. My Phone had no charge to communicate to any body. Stayed in Muzdalifah about 6-7 hours in extreme heat Around (107degree). no transport or taxi to take me back in Mina.Later a bus help me to back to Mina, where again walked about 2-3 hours in extreme heat to find our camp. I remember in Muzdalifah and Mina – several occasions I covered my head (top and back, not the face) with my Ihram cloth to protect my head from sun and heat stroke. Alhamdulillah I survived that episode. I like to know is there any penalty or DUM involved ?
I like to mention also that on 10th, I could not able to stone in Jamarat in morning. I already completed a DUM (animal sacrifice) while I was in Mecca with the help of our guide.
Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
May Allah grant you a Hajj Mabroor. May He accept your Hajj, Duaas, and all the ibaadaat.
In principle, a male pilgrim is not permitted to cover his head nor more than one-fourth of his face while in the state of ihraam. If he covers the above for more than a day or night, i.e., 12 hours or more, then one dumm is compulsory upon him in the Hudoodul Haram. If he covers it for 1 to 12 hours, i.e., less than a day or night, then 15 SAR Sadaqah will be compulsory upon him to the poor and needy. If he covers for less than 1 hour, then 3+ SAR Sadaqah will be compulsory.
In the enquired situation, you should apply your mind and add together all the occasions you covered your head and decide accordingly.
And Allah Ta’ala knows best.
Muftī Mirza Mahmood Baig.
