Question:
Assalamualaikum. Is refraining from cutting nails and hair in first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah a Sunnah? Or considered mustahab?
Is it recommended or required ONLY for those who are planning on having a Qurbani done?
Is there any difference in opinion within the 4 Muthaahib?
Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
- According to the Hanafi legal school, it is mustahabb to refrain from cutting one’s nails and hair during the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah until one’s qurbaani is done.
- This is only for those who will be offering qurbaani. This includes those who will have others slaughter on their behalf.
- Yes. The Shaafi’ee legal school regards it to be an emphasized sunnah. The Hanbali legal school regards it to be waajib.
