Deducting advance zakaah payments

Fatwaa ID: 1025

السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته
Please can you respond to the query below:

Sister, question. If you’ve given zakat over the year. When you calculate your zakat to give do you minus that or do the full total it says, if that makes sense.

جزاكم الله خيرا

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

If you give zakaah in advance throughout the year, then those amounts that you have given will be deducted when you assess your wealth on your zakaah date. You will only pay the difference.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
