Deducting qurbaani amount from zakaah

Fatwaa ID: 1309

Question:
Assalamu alaikum.
Hoping Mufti saab is well.

Question:
My zakaah becomes wajib on me on the first of Dhul Hijjah and I need to make qurbani, so do I have to deduct the money from my zakaah and then discharge it or do I have to include the qurbani amount in my zakaah?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

The obligation of qurbaani is only effective on the days of Qurbaani, 10th, 11th and 12th of Dhul Hijjah. It is not obligatory before that. Hence, the cost of the qurbaani will not be deductible from your zakaah. You must include it in the zakaah calculation.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
