Dentures and wudhu

Fatwaa ID: 1274

Assalamu alaikum
Do we need to remove dentures when performing wudhu

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

In principle, washing of the mouth is not a requisite for the validity of wudhu. Thus, it is not necessary to remove one’s dentures when performing wudhu. The wudhu will be valid with it in the mouth.

It should however be noted that rinsing the mouth is necessary in ghusl according to the Hanafi legal school. If it is possible to remove the dentures without much difficulty, then it will have to be removed for ghusl. If it is very difficult or unremovable, then one will be excused.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
