Did you make Sajdah before you were born?

Fatwaa ID: 844

Assalaamu alaykum wrwb,

Someone asked whether it is true that the amount of times a person does Hajj is the amount of times their soul before they were born did sajdah to Allaah (SWT).

Jazakumullaahu khayran

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

The above is not true.

Some Ahaadith suggest that when Sayyiduna Ibrahim (A) built the Ka’bah and was commanded to invite the people, whoever responded with Labbayk (talbiyah) will perform Hajj. One Hadith suggests that the amount of times a person said Labbayk will be the amount of times he performs Hajj. However, this last Hadith is inauthentic and unestablished.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
