Question:
Assalaamu ‘Alaikum. If someone works valet and they didn’t check in a person into the system and just let the customer tip them and park for free then is the valet sinful? If yes, what should the valet do with the tip and does he have to pay back the hotel for the hours the customer parked. There isn’t really a way for them to repay the hotel so what can be done. Will they be held accountable on the day of judgement?

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

The valet in question is sinful. His actions do not behoove that of a Muslim. A Muslim is honest and truthful in his interactions and dealings. The employer has entrusted him with a job and he has proven to be dishonest. In the enquired situation, he should give the tip given to him to the company. In regards to paying the company, he should refer to the company and see how that should be reimbursed. The company will be rightful if they were to claim it from him.
