Dog licked my hand

Fatwaa ID: 1098

Salam If a dog licks my hand do I wash my hand 7 times and 1 time with soil? Is the soil necessary? what if we can’t find any soil or sand? Can I just wash my hand with soap will that be enough?

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

The saliva of a dog is najis. If a dog licks a person’s hand, it will be sufficient to thoroughly wash it once with water. It does not have to be washed seven times. Similarly, there is no need to use soil. If a person wants, he may use soap.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
