Drawing or painting Islamic scenes

Fatwaa ID: 2087

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته،
Is it permissable to draw/paint Islamic scenes? For example; the river Nile with a basket in it, of course without the Prophets (AS) in them, or the moon split or the cave with the spider Web and nest? Or will it be wrong because it may create an image in peoples minds of how it didn’t actually look?

Jazakumullah khairan.

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

We take note of the details of your query. It will be permissible to draw and paint Islamic scenes such as the ones mentioned in the query. There is no problem with that. As stated, it will not not be permissible to draw the honorable prophets (A).

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
