Dreams of the prophets

Fatwaa ID: 1926

Question:
In Islām, there are 3 types of dreams:
1) true dreams from Allāh
2) dreams of the mind that can be random or what a person is thinking about or etc…
3) false, evil, or shaytani (satanic) dreams

I know Prophets do not have the third type of dream. but do they have the second one?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

The dreams of the prophets are true and regarded to be wahi. Hence, no dream of the prophets was futile. They were all from the first category, true dreams from Allaah Ta’aala.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
