Dua for Miracles and Good News

Fatwaa ID: 2266

Question:

Asalamulkium,

I’m trying to go to graduate school and I’ve taken the exam four times. Each time I got a low score. While I applied with my low score, I’m very concerned on not hearing back yet. Other components of my application were strong. I know Allah is the best of planners and he can perform miracles. Is there any supplication I can read to provide comfort, patience and receive good news from Allah’s mercy?

JazakAllah Khair.

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

We take note of the details of your query. We pray that Allaah Ta’aala keeps you happy and content in both lives.

There are a few points we would like to address:

  • What we perceive as good may not necessarily be good for us. What we perceive as bad may not really be bad for us. We do not know the reality and intricacies of anything. We do no know the outcome or the consequences of our matters. We have no knowledge of the bigger picture.
  • Allaah Ta’aala is al-‘Aleem, the All-Knowing. He is al-Hakeem, the All-Wise. Do not try to force something upon yourself. Do your best and leave the rest to Allaah Ta’aala. Trust His decision. Make tawakkul upon Him.
  • Being intelligent, bright and smart is from Allaah Ta’aala. Similarly, the opposite is also from Him. Some are gifted in certain avenues while others are gifted in other ways. We accept the decree of Allaah Ta’aala and try to find contentment in that. Not everyone will achieve high scores even if they wanted to and tried.
  • While miracles are a reality, we do not look forward to them nor ask for them. That is in the Hands of Allaah Ta’aala. Our job is to adopt the feasible and permissible means at our disposal. To achieve good results in exams, we study hard and seek His assistance and guidance. We do not just expect a miracle to happen.

You may recite the following du’aas:

اللهم إني أسألُكَ نَفْسًا مُطْمَئِنَّةً، تُؤْمِنُ بلِقائِكَ، وتَرْضَى بقَضَائِكَ، وتَقْنَعُ بعَطَائِكَ
“O Allaah! I ask you for a content soul which believes in your meeting, is pleased with your decree and is satisfied with your bestowal.” [al-Jaami’ as-Sagheer of Suyooti]

“Our Lord! Grant us the good of this world and the Hereafter, and protect us from the torment of the Fire.” [al-Baqarah 201]

رَبِّ إِنِّى لِمَآ أَنزَلْتَ إِلَىَّ مِنْ خَيْرٍۢ فَقِيرٌۭ
“My Lord! I am in dire need of whatever good you would send down for me.” [al-Qasas 24]

Read and reflect over the meaning of the istikhaarah du’aa. Send salawaat upon Nabi ﷺ abundantly. Give to charity. Make du’aa for your success and the success of those around you.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
