Du’aa for entering a jamaat khana

Fatwaa ID: 2208

Assalamu alaikum.
Respected Muftisaheb.
When entering a jamaat khana for taleem, can I read the dua before entering the masjid and make intention for nafl i’tikaaf ?
A lady said I can’t do that because we talk about Deen during the taleem so our focus is not only on salaah and zikr.
Jazakallah khairan.

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

In principle, a jamaat khana or musalla is not a masjid. The laws, virtues and sanctity of a masjid do not apply to a musalla. Accordingly, making intention for nafl i’tikaaf when entering a musalla is futile. As for reciting the du’aa of entering the masjid when entering a musalla, one may recite it as a general du’aa, not as something masnoon.

The argument presented by the lady is irrelevant to the issue at hand. People should not speak ignorantly about the Deen. That is haraam. If you are not a scholar, your thoughts and opinions are worthless and unwanted. Nevertheless, talking about the Deen is a form of dhikr. It is something which reminds one of Allaah Ta’aala.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
