Du’aa to look good

Fatwaa ID: 1674

Assalaamu ‘Alaikum Warahmatullaahi Wabarakaatuh

A friend has asked if it’s okay to make du’a that Allah ﷻ can change his appearance or make him look more attractive or beautiful. He says that it’s haram to get plastic surgery done, so he rather ask Allah ﷻ to change or make him more beautiful. He wants to know if it’s permissible to make such a du’a. He knows that he should be content with how Allah ﷻ created him, but people make fun of him for his looks but he won’t resort to haram like plastic surgery. Would such a du’a be permissible for him to make?

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

It is permissible to make du’aa to Allaah Ta’aala to make one look more beautiful and attractive. One should be reminded that righteous deeds brings about radiance and noor on one’s face. Increase in sincere worship and you will start looking better. Tahajjud salaah, studying of Ahaadith and recitation of the Qur’aan are prescribed for this. Likewise, ensure that you eat halaal wholesome food.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
