English speech before the Arabic khutbah

Fatwaa ID: 2375

Assalamualaikum. Am I sinful if I miss most of the English speech before the Arabic khutbah and jummah salah?

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

The speech given in English prior to the Arabic Jumu’ah khutbah is not part of the khutbah. It is a reminder session and congregants are advised to attend so they can benefit. If one comes late for it or misses it, he will not be sinful. He will be blameworthy, however, if he comes late for the khutbah itself.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
