Question:
Assalamualaikum, does an exhale count as a laugh while praying or does it have to pronounce two syllables? Sometimes I get a funny thought and audibly exhale but the corners of my mouth don’t move up or anything so I’m unsure if this breaks my salah

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

Exhaling does not count as laughing. Your salaah will be valid. You should avoid getting these “funny thoughts” in salaah. Remind yourself that you are in front of Allaah Ta’aala. This is an honorable position. Respect it.
