Exorbitant profit

Fatwaa ID: 1368

Quesetion:
Is exorbitant profit in Islam allowed ?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

The Shari’ah encourages an open market. It has not placed any restrictions on how much profit a person can earn. There is no such thing as “exorbitant”. As long as the buyer and seller agree on a price and there is no hoarding of essentials, lying or deception, the transaction will be valid. The profits therefrom will be halaal.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
