Eye crust

Fatwaa ID: 329

Question:
Assalamualaikum, before making wudu I cleaned the crust off of my cats eyes and a while after praying, I noticed a tiny bit of that crust stuck under my nail. Did this prevent water from touching that area?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

In principle, if there is anything on the skin that prevents water from reaching beneath it when performing wudhu, then the wudhu would be invalid. In the enquired situation, we have not done any studies to see if eye crusts of a cat are permeable or not. You may apply your due diligence. It will be safer to repeat the salaahs you have performed with that wudhu. In the event that your previous salaah was valid, this would count as nafl.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
