Father in law remains a mahram

Fatwaa ID: 1854

Askum muftisaheb if a womans husband passed away is she allowed to go with her late husbands parents for umrah ? Jzk

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

In principle, the father-in-law remains a mahram to the daughter-in-law forever. She may travel with him even after the demise of the husband provided there is no undue fear of fitnah. Accordingly, a woman may travel for ‘umrah with her husband’s parents.
This is obviously after the ‘iddah period. It will not be permissible for her to travel during her ‘iddah.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
