Fidyah and zakaah to sayyids

Fatwaa ID: 952

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُم وَ رَحْمَةُ الله ِ و َ بَرَكَاتُهُ

Mufti sahab,

Someone has asked:

1, can fidyah be given to a Sayyed (a person from the descendants of Rasool Allah ﷺ)?

2, can a Sayyed give Zakaah to another Sayyed?

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

  1. Fidyah cannot be given to a sayyid. Fidyah may only be given to someone who is eligible to receive zakaah.
  2. A sayyid cannot give zakaah to another sayyid.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
