Fish sandwiches and sushi at workplace

Fatwaa ID: 505

Question:
Assalamualaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatahu,

In my workplace there are fish sandwiches and fish sushi that they serve that are packed. Am I allowed to eat them?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

It is not possible for us to give a general blanket ruling. It would depend on the ingredients and other issues. You will have to find out about the bread, the sauces used and also about the method in which the fish was cooked or fried as well as the seasonings used. Likewise, you will have to find out if there is any cross-contamination. Sushi and other fish dishes may contain alcohol or beer such as mirin and sake. That is haraam.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
