Following Saudi for salaah times

Fatwaa ID: 1208

Question:
Asalamualaikum respected Mufti Sahib

One of my friends is going to go Iceland, and Maghrib time there is around 11pm. He says that he will follow Saudi timings for prayer instead of these ‘extreme’ prayer times. Would this be permissible for him?

JazaakAllah

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

We presume that your friend is not a scholar of Fiqh nor an authority in Shari’ah. He must stay in his lane and refrain from doing as he wishes. He is not entitled to an opinion. He should make istighfaar for overstepping his limits and refrain from following his desires. If he has questions, he is more than welcome to consult a competent scholar.

Nevertheless, we understand that the timings for salaah in Iceland may be difficult. However, though the day there is longer than many other places, the Muslims there still follow their own timings for salaah. It is manageable. They do not adopt the salaah times of any other country, never mind Saudi. Accordingly, your friend must follow that. Following Saudi for salaah timings while in Iceland is not permissible. The salaahs will be regarded qadhaa in that case.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
