Food stuck in the mouth from suhoor

Fatwaa ID: 634

Assalamualaikum, if there is food from suhoor stuck in the teeth and it is less than a chickpea size, does swallowing it intentionally break the fast?

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

If there is a particle in the mouth that is smaller than the size of a chickpea, then if swallowed while fasting, the fast will remain valid. If it is equal to the size of a chickpea or larger, then if swallowed, the fast will break. Qadhaa will be necessary in this case.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
