السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Respected Mufti Sahib
If someone forgetfully eats while fasting, their fast does not break. But in the case that one remembers while a morsel is in his mouth and he spits it out and cleanses his mouth as much as he is able to, but he has no choice but to swallow what is in the throat (or towards the very back of the mouth) as he is unable to get it out, does his fast break?
Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
If a person eats forgetfully while fasting, then his fast is valid. However, he should stop eating immediately as soon as he remembers that he is fasting. If he remembers while there is food in his mouth, then he should spit it out. If something is in the throat and he is unable to spit that out, then that would not affect his fast. His fast will be valid.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
