Question:
Slms Respected Mufti Saheb
Please could you assit me with the following question from a sister
I recently took on the role of a Fund Coordinator at an NGO, however for this particular project the funder is providing the money on a loan basis and not a grant. As such they are interest based. While I will not be directly managing the disbursement or repayment of the loans, I am responsible for approval of the loan as well as the fund that provides the loans and to ensure repayment to the funder.
Please advise if this job is permissible or not ان شاءالله
JazakAllah khair
Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
We presume that you are paid a set salary for your job. Your payment is not based on the amount of jobs you take on nor the funds you are able to secure. Accordingly, your job is permissible. However, if you are able to refuse to take up this specific case, then you should do so. If you are unable to do that, then you should give a small portion of your salary away in charity for purpose of purification.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
